Gizem Adıgüzel Özmen

Biography

Gizem Adıgüzel Özmen attended Ankara Anatolian High School (Ankara Anadolu Lisesi) from 2005 to 2009. She completed her undergraduate studies at Ankara University Faculty of Law between 2009 and 2013. During her university years, she took part in work at the European Court of Human Rights and the European Parliament together with Bilkent University Faculty of Law.

In 2014, she continued her academic career with a master's degree at the Chair of Civil Law, Department of Private Law, Ankara University Institute of Social Sciences. She successfully completed her thesis-based master's programme, taking the courses Bank Credit Card Agreements with Prof. Dr. Hasan Ayrancı and Non-Performance of Obligations with Prof. Dr. Vedat Buz. She has an advanced command of English and German.

She holds a Certificate of Participation in the Energy Law Programme organised by the Law and Human Rights Research Society of Ankara University Faculty of Law; a Certificate of Participation in the “DEMOCRACY 101” Project, carried out under the Youth Projects of the Centre for European Union Education and Youth Programmes of the Ministry for European Union Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye; a certificate of participation in the Capital Markets Board (SPK) Internship Training; and a certificate of participation in Kadir Has University's “Sports Law Practice: Lex Sportiva and Sports Jurisdiction” programme. She took part in the panel on “Competition Safety and Arbitration in Sport” held by the National Olympic Committee of Türkiye. She holds a certificate of attendance from the Special Training Seminar on Sports Law of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, as well as a certificate in Public Procurement Law from the Türavak Advanced Training Certificate Programme. She lectures law students, graduates and practising lawyers at numerous educational institutions and organisations.

Since 2017, together with Attorney Duygu Önerci Akpınar, she has been providing legal representation, advisory and mediation services to well-established companies and public institutions based in Türkiye and abroad, through their offices in Ankara and Istanbul.

Gizem Adıgüzel Özmen has been a member of the Young Businesspeople Association of Türkiye (Türkiye Genç İş İnsanları Derneği) since 2021, and served on the board of directors of its Ankara Branch between 2022 and 2023. She has also been a member of the 1905 Ankara Galatasaray Businesspeople Association (1905 Ankara Galatasaraylı İş İnsanları Derneği) since 2022 and a member of its board of directors since 2023. In addition, she holds various positions within the Turkish Ice Hockey Federation, the Turkish Motorcycling Federation, the Turkish Taekwondo Federation and the Turkish Sport for All Federation.

Biography

Attorney Duygu Önerci Akpınar completed her secondary education at TED Ankara College Foundation Private High School and went on to graduate from the Faculty of Law of TOBB University of Economics and Technology.

Over the course of her professional career, she has worked at distinguished law firms in Ankara, Istanbul, Milan and Rome, specialising in particular in e-commerce law, contract law, employment law, consumer law, IT law, intellectual property law and company law. In this capacity, she has provided advisory and litigation services to numerous domestic and foreign companies that hold a significant place in the Turkish economy.

Placing great importance on academic work as well, Duygu Önerci Akpınar completed a thesis-based master's degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law at the Department of Public Law of Ankara University Institute of Social Sciences with high honours. During this time, she authored various academic works in the fields of criminal law and criminal procedure law.

As part of her international legal practice, she spent time in Rome on a merit scholarship awarded by Ankara University Faculty of Law. There, working at Nunziante Magrone Studio Legale, she played an active role in client relations between Türkiye and Italy and advised in various fields, company law in particular.

A member of the Italian Chamber of Commerce since 2017, Duygu Önerci Akpınar taught IT law at Istanbul Bilgi University in 2022.

Today, she operates from Istanbul and Dubai, providing domestic and foreign clients with legal advisory, contract management, dispute resolution and litigation services on an international scale.
